Hope Network Assumes Operations of Ladder Homes in Holland

This ensures the continuity of a trusted housing program in the lakeshore community.

HOLLAND, Mich. (January. 13, 2026)
Hope Network announces today that it will assume operational responsibility for Ladder Homes, a Holland-based nonprofit housing organization that has served the community since 1990. The transition, effective January 1, represents an planned change in operational control and is designed to preserve and strengthen Ladder Homes’ mission, services, and legacy.

Ladder Homes provides seven homes serving 30 residents in an independent living environment, supporting individuals with mental illness or substance use challenges as they work toward long-term stability. Residents pay their own rent and receive case management support, filling an important step-down role in the local housing continuum.

The program will continue to operate under the Ladder Homes name, with no changes to services, staffing, or day-to-day operations. The transition ensures the program continues according to the original vision established by Ladder Homes leadership.

“This transition is about continuity, stewardship, and long-term sustainability,” said Rick VanTil Sr., MA, LPC, Executive Director of Ladder Homes. “It was incredibly important to me to find the right organization to carry this work forward upon my retirement. Hope Network’s reputation, values, and compassionate approach made them the clear choice. I’m confident Ladder Homes will continue to thrive under Hope Network’s leadership while staying true to its mission.”

Rick VanTil Sr. will remain actively involved for at least six months to support a smooth transition and continuity for residents, staff, and community partners.

For Hope Network, Ladder Homes fills an important gap in its housing continuum by offering lower-acuity, independent living options.

“Ladder Homes has built something truly special in the Holland community over the past three decades,” said Bob Von Kaenel, President and CEO of Hope Network. “We’re honored to assume responsibility for this program and to protect the legacy Rick and his team created. This isn’t about changing what works – it’s about ensuring Ladder Homes remains strong and sustainable for years to come.”

Operational responsibility shifted to Hope Network on January 1, with Ladder Homes becoming part of Hope Network’s housing services team while maintaining its established identity and approach.
