Zero Suicide: A Suicide Prevention Initiative

If you or someone you know needs support now, call or text 988

Zero Suicide Initiative

Hope Network has made a commitment to improving the care we provide the people we serve who are struggling with suicide.

The most vital difference we can make through our work is to save lives. We hope to make suicide a “never event.”  To some this may sound audacious, but, simply put, one life lost to suicide is one too many.

This initiative will enhance services across the entire organization by implementing the Zero Suicide Framework displayed below. This framework was developed by The Education Development Center’s Zero Suicide Institute. The Zero Suicide Initiative focuses on suicide reduction through professional development; consistent use of standardized screening tools; referrals to appropriate levels of care; and implement evidence-based treatment protocols to improve care by health systems across the state.  We believe this approach will improve the care and safety of the individuals we serve, thereby making our organization a safer, and, hopefully, more fulfilling place to work.

Suicide Prevention Trainings:

The work of caring for individuals at risk for suicide is challenging. Suicidal behavior is a major cause of death and disability in the United States. Over 30,000 people die by suicide each year, the equivalent of one major airliner filled with passengers crashing every two days. Hundreds of thousands of people are treated in hospital emergency departments each year following a suicide attempt.

A significant proportion of people who die by suicide have had recent contact with a mental health professional. However, many providers are inadequately trained to assess, treat, and manage suicidal patients or clients.

We want to assure you that Hope Network is committed to making sure our communities have the skills and confidence to keep people safe and live a life with hope. Our training workshops and courses educate healthcare professionals about the importance and delivery of safer suicide care in supportive and interactive learning environments. We offer both in-person and online trainings.
