Hope Network’s Dane Ver Merris, Ed.D. Receives Prestigious Psychology Award

We’re pleased to announce the American Psychological Association has named Dane Ver Merris, Ed.D., Hope Network Neuro Rehabilitation Psychologist, as a 2015 recipient of the Karl F. Heiser Award.

The award honors psychologists for state and federal advocacy efforts.

“Dr. Ver Merris has consistently demonstrated his leadership in the development of industry standards for practice based on the Michigan Public Health Code, and was instrumental in the development of licensure rules regarding supervision, training and continuing education,” said Phil Weaver, President of Hope Network. “We are proud of his efforts, and delighted that he is being recognized by the American Psychological Association for his tireless work.”

Dr. Ver Merris was appointed to the Michigan Board of Psychology in 2005, served on the Board’s Disciplinary Subcommittee from 2005 to 2007 and functioned as the Chairperson from 2008 to 2012. From 2006 to 2012, Dr. Ver Merris served as the Michigan Delegate to the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. He also serves as an adjunct facility member at Western Michigan University and Calvin College, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. He has many years of both inpatient and outpatient clinical experience.

Since the Karl F. Heiser Award was established in 1992, many deserving psychologists have been recognized for legislative advocacy benefiting the profession and the public. Karl F. Heiser Award winners are honored annually at the American Psychological Association Convention, which will be held August 6-9 this year in Toronto, Ontario at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
